t EPSOM DOWNS TURF NOTES i, Stewards Tom Hanford and Tom J. Brown have served warning on the riders performing at Epsom Downs that they will not tolerate rough riding. After thoroughly investigating the cause for Old State ducking out at the eighth pole during the running of the fourth race Monday, it was learned that the racer threw a shoe during the stretch run, absolving jockey M. L. Fallon of any attempt at rough riding. Frankie Seremba, former jockey who is training several horses for Mrs. Sally Stengel and Joseph Cattarinich as well as his own, stated that he has made preparations for receiving the trio of two-year-olds Jules Lazard, Maissoneuve and Longueil. The shipment is en route from New Orleans, where they have been rested up and are scheduled to arrive here some time Wednesday. Apprentice Frank Cagle, maiden jockey, who had the mount on Crout au Pot in the feature Monday afternoon, was severely reprimanded for his weak handling of the racer by the stewards. It was the Fort Worth boys second appearance in colors during the current meeting. R. J. Burney has applied for a license to train the horses which race for R. O. Burns. The two runners under his care are Explorer and Club Soda, and he reported that he is expecting two more horses before the close of the Epsom Downs meeting. Wesley Freeman, one of starter Val Sulichs ground men, sustained a broken arm while handling Torchcen in the fifth race Monday. The injury will keep, the Texan inactive for the remainder of the meeting. It was the second Injury suffered by Freeman within a week, having suffered a cut eye when run into by Ima Count.
