OUTSIDER SAYLOMA SURPRISES Scores at 7.80 for in Epsom Downs Race With His Rider Drawing Suspension for Rough Ride. HOUSTON, Texas, Oct. 6. Sprinters monopolized the program at Epsom Downs Tuesday afternoon, competing in six of the eight races, presented to a good-sized crowd. There was a threat of rain, as a light drizzle fell on a few occasions, but was not sufficient to cause any change in track conditions during the running of the early races. Outsiders upset the calculations of the bettors in the third race, which turned out to be a wild and wooly affair with jockey F. A. Smith, who piloted Sayloma to victory at odds of 7.80 for , drawing a suspension of ten days for the rough tactics that he employed in the stretch racing. Anne L., another long shot, finished second, and Agreeable was third, while Kai Harri, the ruling choice, performed in dismal manner under a weak ride. Agreeable displayed the best brand of speed away from the starting gate, and held an advantage over Anne L, for a half mile of the journey, then the latter went to Jthet fore after straightening out in the stretch. Sayloma, which had been within striking distance, moved rapidly on the outside at this point and engaged in a duel with Anne L. As Sayloma took a slight lead in the last sixteenth. Smith pulled over on Anne L., forcing Harold West, who was astride the latter, to take up quickly. Sayloma then added to her margin and crossed the finish line two and a half lengths in front of the impeded Anne L. Mrs. V. Wyse, Houston sportswoman, furnished the winner of the Ted Healey Purse, five furlongs dash which came fourth on the card and served as the headliner of the day, in Parva Stella, with the chestnut filly making it two straight scores. Transen finished second, suffering her initial defeat in three trips to the post here, while Leros accounted for third money. Favored in the betting over the five other contestants, Parva Stella never left the result in doubt after the first quarter mile. Though she held the scant margin of a half length in the first quarter over Transen, the chestnut daughter of Rock Man Gay Stella widened the gap thereafter and crossed the finish with a length and a half ho host nf it.
