I RIVER DOWNS TURF NOTES $ ! Cross Ruff, Overplay, Rigorous and Capitalist comprise the small butuseful string F. H. Carpenter brought here from Lincoln Fields. Jockey Robert Montgomery is with the stable. One of the most useful stables here is that of Jess Spencer, which contains nine head. In addition to the older Harper and Chatuga, it includes So Good, Sweet Tone, Our Willie, Good King, Saparoo, Slant Eye and Brillwinn. The Canadian-owned stable of Mrs. A. R. Stuart, which is topped by the speedy Miss Monoa, also includes Unencumbered, Aber-crombie, Wee Princess, Cania, British Miss and Boys Advice. General manager Edward P. Strong announced that beginning Tuesday, the second Ladies Day of the meeting, the mutuel department on the mezzanine floor would be open. Word was received here Monday that the condition of Miss Florence Johnson, the secretary of the Michigan Racing Commission, was greatly improved. She is recovering from an operation for appendicitis. J. H. Johnson, who recently resigned as trainer of the Blue Moon Stable, arrived from Detroit He is in quest of several horses for a winter campaign. Alex Menger and Tommy Botts, two veteran trainers who are without horses at the present time, are daily visitors. Mike Mitchell, chief assistant to "Des" Dressen, manager of the pari-mutuel department, arrived from Louisville, where he has been vacationing for several days. Empty Bottle, one of the leading juveniles of last year, Ilchester, Transpose and Gay Bubble comprise the small but useful band E. B. Carpenter brought here from Lincoln Fields. Dellor and Perlette, two eligibles for Saturdays 500 added Queen City Handicap, headed the stable of J. W. Parrish, which John M. Goode unloaded Monday morning. Also including Threems, Southern Miss, Sir Isaac, Parrish Roach, Satinwood and Entree, the string had an uneventful trip from Lincoln Fields. R, J. Wilkerson checked in with Missus, Abby B. and Dunwin. The trio came from Louisville. The horses Joe Brooks brought from Chicago are Bostqn Mary, Corum, Ruth Scout, Sailalong, Lady Democrat, Blue Cat, Jerry S., Quick, Grey Feu and Vito Man. Charles A. Kenny, who visited his family at Paris, Ky., during the week-end, returned here Monday morning. Costlier and Prince Fellow, both of which started from outside of the stalls, were added to starter George Wingfields schooling list T. L. "Dory" Pierce, who has one of the more useful stables here, has been engaged to train the two-year-old Jack Greenock for Earl Dickson, a Chillicothe patron. Nominations for the Queen City Handicap for two-year-olds close Tuesday. It features Saturdays program and carries ,500 in added money.
