MYRTLEW00D-MISS MERRIMENT MATCH RACE OFF CINCINNATI, Ohio, Oct G. After hearing from J. P, Smith, trainer of Miss Merriment, that it. would be impossible for him to race her at River Downs before the eighteenth of this month. Joseph. A. Murphy, director of racing, decided to call off the proposed race between Miss Merriment and Myrtle-wood. Brownell Combs, owner of Myrtlewood, was willing to meet Mr. Smiths terms in practically every demand as to weights, distance and track condition, but insisted that it would be necessary to run the race before the opening of Keeneland, where he expects to run Myrtlewood in several races. As Myrtlewood is scheduled to run in the Ashland Handicap on the first Saturday of the Keeneland meeting at a mile and a sixteenth, it would be impossible to bring her back to a three-quarters race at River Downs within a few days afterwards.
