i i BUSY AT SPORTSMANS PARK Preparations for Next Mondays Opening Being Rushed to Completion. CICERO, 111., Oct 6. With the interval before Mondays opening narrowed down to but five days, preparations for the National Jockey Clubs meeting of eighteen days were in full swing at Sportsmans Park here today. As executives of that association and heads of various departments were pushing numerous details, several new stables unloaded at the track during the day. The latest arrivals brought the number of horses on the grounds to more than 100 and racing secretary Robert S. Shelley looks for all stalls to be occupied within the next three days. Most of the horses making up the large influx of racers expected within the next forty-eight hours will come from Lincoln Fields, where the meeting closes Saturday. Stables leaving the Crete track before the close include quite a number that have raced here in previous seasons. Their trainers prefer to rest their horses several days before swinging into the local campaign. With the track in excellent condition and schooling of horses scheduled to commence tomorrow, horsemen will find every facility for the preparation and conditioning of the horses. The horses Jack Klucina shipped here include Ralph C, Skid, Bob Weidel, Equation, Wind Gate, Grandmas Girl, Bar Play, Pursuit and Drino, while C. C. Winters, a recent arrival from Detroit, has Odd Blue, Witson, Thistle Jock, Bald Crest, Anna V. L., John Tio and Always Blue. Elmer Johnson vanned Masterpiece and Erla from Lincoln Fields this morning and the remainder of his stable will come over later in the week. John Patton, secretary and treasurer of the organization, who has been directing the early preparations for the melting, continues just about the busiest man on the grounds.
