ADVOCATOR PROVES SUPERIOR Has Little Trouble Annexing Honors in Wave Crest Purse at Jamaica. Spirited Contest for Minor Awards With Juliet W. and Devils Banner Second and Third, Respectively. NEW YORK, N. Y., Oct 6. Joseph Widener"s Advocator, the unsexed son of Sickle and Persica, which was automatically out of the Futurity by reason of being a gelding, again proved his worth at Jamaica today, when he was an easy winner over a good band of juveniles in the six furlongs of the Wave Crest Purse. It was in keeping with the brilliant form he showed in his last previous race at Belmont Park. Back of the Widener colt Benjamin Lissbergers consistent filly, Juliet W., and Comer Covingtons Devils Banner were so closely lapped that the camera was called upon to make the decision, and William Ziegler, Jr.s Zostera was lapped on the pair of them. Back of these were such good ones as Clodion, Murph, Your Honor, Camisado and Sophia Tucker, as well as others of lesser reputation. The start was a good one and while Juliet W. was more alert than the others leaving the stalls she was soon headed by Advocator, and as Wright took command with the Widener gelding he eased him to the rail and took a slight hold of his head without losing command. Then, as the stretch turn was approached, he cased back and both Juliet W. and Devils Banner were right with him. BY SAFE MARGIN. Coming into the short stretch without losing ground, Wright permitted the colt to . run and he went away readily, to be home the winner by two lengths. Juliet W. hanging on with her usual gameness, just lasted to beat Devils Banner, and he, in turn, was just a neck before Zostera, one which finished with excellent courage. Clodion had met with some early interference and thero was some excuse for Camisado when he. ran into early trouble. Murph was unable to improve his position throughout the running. Hugh W. Jacksons Snow Fox won his sixth consecutive purse when he was winner of the Copiague Handicap and he gave Johnny Gilbert hi3 second winner of the day, for in the previous race it was Gilbert that won "with Lord Tournament. Thursday, the old Mars gelding that now races for R. A. Moore, took second place when he outgamed Townsend B. Martins Steel Cutter and Star Porter was a distant fourth. Hirsch Jacobs added another victory to his training score when he sent out William N. Adrians Lord Tournament in the six furlongs of the Parkside Handicap. Admirably handled by Johnny Gilbert, the old gelding carried all the pace and was still three . lengths to the good as he led Mrs. William Ziegler, Jr.s Gold Mesh over the line. There was a call for the camera to decide third place when Robert L. Gerrys Chancer and Mrs. C. Oliver Iselins Knowing finished closely lapped. Gilbert lost no time in taking Lord Tournament into the lead vnd he was closely followed by Knowing. Before the stretch was reached he had raced the three-year-old into submission and Gilbert then took a slight hold on the winner as he lost no ground rounding into the stretch and won by three lengths. rilOTOGRAFH FINISH. The first race, a five and a half furlongs dash for cheap maiden fillies, brought a finish that demanded a photograph, and after a long, tedious delay the print gave the award to Cherry Chic, which was on the outside of Robert L. Gerrys Flickering, the filly with which she was fighting it out Then after another delay Joseph Pepps Spicy was declared in a dead heat with Old Maid for third, these being closely lapped for that part of the purse. The camera in use at Jamaica has not given anything like the satisfaction given at Belmont Park and its decisions have not only been long delayed, but they have- been open to argument.
