MYRTLEWOOD AND MISS MERRIMENT MEET TODAY M Match Race Shares Honors With Lexington Stakes on Final Day Large Crowd Expected to Watch Finale of Initial Meet-ingr at New Lexington Track Program Starts at 1 :30 P. M. Because of Match Race LEXINGTON, Ky., Oct. 23. Keenelands inaugural meeting of nine days already a success, reaches its conclusion tomorrow with an eight-race program headed by the first running of the Lexington Stakes and the long-awaited match between Myrtlewood and Miss Merriment for supremacy in the older filly division. Despite cold and showery weather today and the opposition of a University of Kentucky football game, a large crowd is expected to witness tomorrows program, which will be started at 1:30 oclock because of the addition of the match race. Eight good two-year-olds have been named for the Lexington Stakes, which is a dash of six furlongs, with ,500 added, with White Tie and Tattered coupled as the Manhasset Stable and Greentree Stable entry, and Proph and Perlette as the J. W. Parrish team. Others in the field are Lucas B. Combs Woodberry, Shandon Farms Quincy, Hal Price Headleys Old Nassau and Southland Stables Lucky Ducky. 118 POUNDS ON EACH. In the match, which is to be at six furlongs, each will carry 118 pounds. George South will ride Brownell Combs four-year-old daughter of Blue Larkspur and Frizeur, as he has done all season, and John Gilbert will be up on the five-year-old mare by High Time from Nobility, if the stewards rule that the event comes under the rules as a stake event Gilbert is under contract to John Hay Whitney, who recently purchased Miss Merriment from Victor Emanuel, but he was suspended the other day for rough riding. Under the Kentucky rules a Suspended jockey is permitted to fulfill his stakes engagements. Regardless of who rides Miss Merriment, Myrtlewood is expected to rule a strong favorite because she is locally-owned and already has won two stakes at the meeting, the Keen Handicap and Ashland Stakes. Another important event on the final program is the Experimental Handicap, with five horses meeting over six furlongs under the same conditions and weights as they raced on Monday. Roustabout won that race, with Threadnecdle second and Indomitable third. LEXINGTON, Ky., Oct 23. A poor start, the first of the meeting for W. M. Hamilton, marred the running of the Dixiana Purse, the best number of Keenelands semi-final program today. Six good sprinters went to the post with Hal Price Headleys Pelerine, ridden by H. Beasy, running the six furlongs in 1:11 to defeat Louise J. Hickmans Dusty Dawn by two and a half lengths. Marica, representing Howard Oots and the favorite, finished at the heels of Dusty Dawn. COLD WEATHER. Despite cold weather and a drizzle during the early part of the afternoon, the attendance was up to expectations and interest continued in brisk fashion.
