ROUTE RACING FEATURED Patrons of River Downs to Witness Contests at Long Distances. Cincinnati and Indian Summer Handicaps Chief Offerings of Most Inviting Program. CINCINNATI, Ohio, Oct 23. Lovers of long-distance racing will come into their own at River Downs Saturday afternoon. With the exception of the ,500 added Cincinnati Handicap, which attracted a field of nine for a five and one-half furlongs sprint, the program is given over to longer distance events, and two of the eight will he decided at the stamina-testing route of one mile and six furlongs. Supporting the high weight handicap is the Indian Summer Handicap, at one mile and one-sixteenth and, although Mucho Gusto and Don Creole are named in both races, the two principal events bring together evenly-matched fields. Despite a drizzling rain early this morning and little hope for a fast track, racing secretary Henry experienced little trouble filling his unique program. The carded substitute is a race for two-year-olds at one mile and forty yards, which is to be run in the event it is necessary to discard one of the original races. BUSY MUCHO GUSTO. Opposing Mucho Gusto, which will shoulder the top impost in both handicaps, in the chief event, are the speedy Empty Bottle, Dora May, Sweep Like, Don Creole, Reminiscent, Double B. and Odd Star and Toney Doo. Mucho Gusto will carry 126 pounds, with Empty Bottle toting 119. Double B. is to be vanned here from Keeneland to fill his engagement. In the Indian Summer, which finds him under 120 pounds, Mucho Gusto will match strides with Paradisical, Gyral, Buddie Treacy, Compensatory, Best Bid, Safe and Sound and Don Creole. Paradisical, a winner here this week, will carry 113 pounds, and Don Creole follows next, under 107. The first of the two races at one mile and six furlongs will be contested by eight better grade platers, and it is named in honor of Mike Hall, winner of the Latonia Cup and the Agua Caliente Handicap. EXPECT LARGE CROWD. In the event the management is favored with fair weather, the largest crowd of the meeting is expected. Track superintendent Brown stated this morning that if no more rain falls before the opening of the program, he expects the track to be in good condition.
