VANDA CERULEA ALL THE WAY Vindicates Strong Support in Taking Epsom Downs Race Small Crowd Views Sport. HOUSTON, Texas., Oct. 23. Drab weather, with enough zip in the breeze to make top coats and wraps comfortable, prevailed and was largely responsible for the reduced attendance, at Epsom Downs, Friday afternoon. Again the program was given over to platers, with the Ben Milam Claiming Purse, at a mile and one-sixteenth, serving as the main attraction. Small fields, too, competed in the various contests and enthusiasm did not appear as great as on previous occasions. As an added feature to todays festivities the finals of the South Texas Intercounty Range Horse Eliminating Series was staged at the conclusion of the afternoons regular program and considerable interest was displayed by Texans in this event, which brought together a field of the speediest cow ponies in this territory to match strides over a quarter mile distance. After having suffered two setbacks, the form students came into their own in the third race when V. A. Mikels Vanda Ceru-lea romped to victory over Moving Clouds and Whoa Back ruling an odds-on favorite In the field of six starters. Apprentice Cor-nay lost no time in hustling his charge into the lead and kept her there every inch of t the way, and drew away to a three length advantage at the finish of the five and a half furlongs affair.
