SPRINT RACE MAIN EVENT West Texas Handicap Arlingtons Chief Short Distance Contest. Preparatory Affair for Waggoner Memorial Handicap Eligibles Fourteen Named In Overnight Entries. ARLINGTON, Texas, Oct 23. Fourteen of the. twenty-eight nominated for the race haying accepted weights, the ,500 added West Texas Handicap, topping tomorrows first Saturday program of the Arlington Downs meeting, is assured of a fine renewal in spite of the fact that it will be decided over a muddy track. "Drenching rains last night and today so watersoaked the course that a complete right about face by the weather man during the less than twenty-four hours before the stake will be presented would make .little difference in track conditions. However, with actual starters coming from among such as Where Away, Croon. Appealing, Sound Advice, Reaping, Infidox. Pharosay, Ncdrow, My Dainty, Porcellus, Jimmie Cabaniss, Recovery and Lunsford. the contest would attract a large crowd should reasonable overhead conditions prevail. Where Away, ace of A. Pelleteris stable, is assigned top weight of 120 pounds and if he is a contestant it would mark his first public appearance of the current meeting. One of the most improved horses of the season, Where Away is on. of the candidates for the 5,000 added Waggoner Memorial Handicap, to be run three" weeks from tomorrow, and the West Texas Handicap engagement fits in nicely in his preparation for that longer race. APPEALING AMONG ELIGIBLES. The Motor City Stables AppeaUng, one of the stars of the Detroit meeting. Was assigned the next highest impost, 116 pounds, but a proved performer of the first water, the impost should not prevent him from showing to best advantage.. Another highly regarded by handicapper Charles McLennan is Mrs. Creechs Sound, Advice, which is asked to take up 113 pounds. Ha is reported in top condition and with Reaping, which is assigned 106 pounds, as a running mate, should convey the Creech silk3 with distinction. W. C. Stroubes good filly, Croon; one of the outstanding sprinters of the Epsom Downs meeting and a favorite of Arlington Downs patrons; D. L. Ogles Infidox and the erratic Pharosay, owned by C. E. Davison and rushed here from Chicago for the engagement, are others expected to prove strong contenders with still some danger among the others. Croon and Infidox drew 110 pounds each, while Pharosay is admitted under 104 pounds. Several other good fields were obtained for other races on the half-holiday card and with allowances for track conditions, i the sport promises to compare favorably with the best of the meeting. The field for the West Texas Handicap, with post positions, weights and probable jockeys follows: PP. Horse. Wt Jockey. 1 Faust 101 J. Longden 2 tReaping 106 C. Parke 3 jSound Advice 113 C.
