BROOD MARE BERRIEDALE Shortly before the turn of the present century, the late Marcus Daly sent Dr. E. W. Hagyard of Lexington, Ky., to England to purchase breeding stock for his Bitter Root Stud in Montana. One of the Lexington veterinarians choices was the mare Ber-riedale, foaled in 1894, a daughter of Donovan, Berriedale proved to be oneof the most illustrious thoroughbred mares in this country and also, through .her daughter, Mask-ette, became ancestress of several winners of European and British classic races. In this country, Berriedales daughter. Princess Ormonde, produced Ormonda which in turn gave to the American turf Osmand and Brevity, both of which have carried the colors of Joseph E. Widener to many notable triumphs.
