KITTY BAKER IN FORM Qualifies for Clipsetta Stakes by Victory at Latonia. : Smith Representative Finishes Head Before Fine Mint in Park Hills Purse Track Good. LATONIA, Ky., June 15. William E, Smiths chestnut filly, Kitty Baker, a nominee for the Clipsetta Stakes, which comes up for decision for the f4fty-fifth time on Saturday, qualified in impressive fashion for that engagement when she came from behind to account for the Park Hills Purse, five furlongs sprint, which served as the feature attraction of this afternoons program at Latonia. The daughter of Harry Baker Kitty Yansen wore down Mrs. F. Prestons Fine Mint to register by a head, while C. R. Allens Miss Mars was five lengths farther back in third position. Though Kitty Baker was unable to keep up during the early stages, she made up pround rapidly turning for home and set sail for Fine Mint, which had set the pace practically from the start. However, it was not until the last sixteenth that Kitty Baker managed to get up on equal terms with Fine Mint and from that point to the finish it was a nip and tuck battle. SECOND WIN OF MEETING. Jessie O., which raced in closest pursuit of the pacemaker, began to tire after straightening out in the stretch and it appeared as if Fine Mint would coast to an easy triumph until Kitty Baker made her bid for recognition. Gaining with every stride, the Smith colorbearer forged to the front in the last seventy yards to chalk up her second victory of the current season. Though the track was somewhat dull due t a heavy rain during the early morning, it improved sufficiently to be termed good for the presentation of the days program of eight races, which was resumed after a days lay-off from the sport .on Monday. There was a good turnout of racing devotees and well balanced fields, though consisting mostly of selling platers, provided some interesting racing for the spectators. An upset marked the running of the Continued on thirty-ninth page. KITH BAKER IN FORM Continued from first page. opener, which was captured by Mrs. A. L. Taylors Thursland, which graduated from the maiden ranks and returned the largest odds of the meeting, paying 42.80 for straight. The bay gelding, bred at Columbus, Ohio, defeated Mere Blaze by two lengths, while Albert Beck finished third. A capacity field engaged in the six furlongs dash and Thursland came from behind in the final quarter to account for his score. SHINING HEELS GRADUATES. Making the second start of her career, A. Li. Fergusons Shining Heels graduated from the ranks of non-winners in the second race, a five furlongs dash for maiden two-year-old fillies, and enabled the form players to recoup some of their losses on the previous event. The fast black filly held a margin of two and a half lengths over Patrona at the finish, with Lady Orchid in third place. Eleven three-year-old platers matched strides in the third, at six furlongs. W. E. Snyders Flying True was returned the winner by the margin of a length over Cossack Girl. Ada W., a strongly-backed choice, landed third. Rushed to the fore soon after the start. Flying True showed the way the remainder of the trip, but had to be urged in the final stages to hold his advantage oyer Cossack Girl, which was gaining gradually in the final sixteenth. Tobacco made it two victories in a row when she romped down in front in the fifth, another three-quarters of a mile sprint, which brought together eight of a slightly better class than those which performed in the preceding events. Jackemma finished second, four lengths in the wake of the winner, while Red Quill held on for third money. C. C. Norman sent another winner to the post, when J. Desopos Our Prince defeated the odds-on favortie, Marie Jean,, in the sixth race, at a mile and seventy yards. The winners margin was but a head over the choice. Double R. was third in the field of eight. ill Jli J4L.C4 J .ii Uij 1 l u O lu
