FILLY SURPRISES OWNER Relegated to Culls, Drift Along Wins Three Straight. Equalled Track Record on June 2 and Finishes Within Fifth of Second of Time Tuesday. HOMEWOOD, 111., June 15 H. P. Head-leys improving Supremus filly, Drift Along, which did little to recommend herself highly earlier in her campaign, seems destined to become one of the better two-year-old fillies. This afternoon, at Washington Park, she further distinguished herself by achieving her third straight victory in impressive time. On the occasion of her first victory at the local course on June 2, Drift Along equalled the five furlongs track record of :59Ys, and in taking down the best race on todays card, she came within a fifth of a second of that mark to win in one-sided fashion. Drift Alongs development has been a surprise to her owner, for he had her relegated to a group of culls, and he had little hope that she would amount to much except, perhaps, in the lower claiming brackets. It is his plan now to give her a few more races and then return her to his Beaumont Farm in the hope that she might grow and develop into a filly of quality. Closest to Drift Along today in the fifth race, but beaten five lengths, was Bertillon, while Maneuver was third, another two lengths away. Then, . in order, followed Ariel Attack, Miss Georgette and Quibbat FALLS TO MENACE WINNER. The Headley filly, ridden by Paul Ryan, followed Ariel Attacks pace under slight restraint to the stretch and then took command and won as her rider pleased. Bertillon met slight interference on the turn but was unable to menace the winner when placed under strong pressure thereafter, although he was easily best of the others. Maneuver was never far back while Ariel Attack tired after his early pacemaking assignment. Drift Along was a confidently backed favorite, rewarding her backers to the extent of only .20 for . This race for juveniles was the best on an off-day program, for a majority of the eight races were given over to performers of the lower class. The weather, although skies were partly overcast most of the afternoon, was pleasant, a nice breeze sweeping over the course, while the track was fast. Another . large week-day crowd was in attendance. SOURLOCKS FIRST SUCCESS. Maiden two-year-olds provided the sport in the first event, .decided over five furlongs, and the winner was the Bedford" Stock Farms Bobbrax. The son of Bobby Sweep, which came from behind to score by a length, was carrying Don Scurlock, seventeen-year-old Lexington, Ky., boy, to the first victory of his saddle career. He is under contract of R. O. Higdon, trainer of the Bedr ford Stock Farm horses. The second event, at seven furlongs, was for older, maidens and the one to graduate here was the Calumet Farms After All, Continued on twenty-fourth page. FILLY SURPRISES OWNER Continued from first nage. handled by Joe Renick. After tossing Renick and generally cutting up to delay the start, After All was away well and, following the heavily played Russmor to the final eighth, wore . down the pacemaker to win by two lengths. Russmor was much the best of the others in the field of nine. EASY FOR HOUR ZEV. Racing under the colors of B. and M. Stewart, the well-backed Hour Zev raced to an easy victory in the third race, which engaged ten cheaper performers. Overcoming interference he met when Cain came over on him on the turn, the veteran Zev gelding, ridden by Henry Hauer, overtook the leaders in the stretch and won with a length and a half to spare. Our David, made a slight favorite, and which earlier had raced Full Up into submission, readily gave way to the winner about an eighth out but was much the best of the others, saving the place by five lengths. Cheraw was third and Modest Manners next. Making his first start of the Washington Park season, the Woolford Farms Drombo raced to a popular and decisive victory in the fourth contest, another at six furlongs, for platers from the lower bracket. Jockry Leon Haas sent him to the front early and kept him there throughout and though he bore out badly in the stretch he had a margin of two lengths as he raced under the wire. The Darb, trying for his second straight win, had to be content with second honors as Spicson finished third, four lengths back. Another of the days shorter priced winners was the Millsdale Stables Advancing, which scored a driving victory in the sixth race, decided over seven furlongs. Festoon was second, Exponent third and Anklets fourth. Advancing, ridden by Charley Cor-bett, was taken back early and after being able to move up on the inside, wore down Festoon in the drive to score by a neck.
