HUNTERDON FINALLY SCORES Initial Success of New England Season for Logan Colorbearer. Foul Claim Not Allowed in Suffolk Downs Feature Uncle Fred Unfortunate in Running. BOSTON, Mass., June 15. Jimmy Logans Hunterdon, a champion "second horse," broke his jinx today and got home on top in the mile and a sixteenth Old South Claiming Purse, which featured the sport at Suffolk Downs. His victory, however, was not affirmed until after Bierman, who rode O. H. Rowes Moralist to second place, had lodged a claim of foul against Hanford, who booted the winner, but it was not allowed. The victor came over on Moralist in the stretch, but the stewards ruled that the interference did not cause his defeat. The really unlucky horse in the jam was Miss D. I. Letendres Uncle Fred, which finished third. He broke in the air, was caught in a blind switch at the head of the stretch, and then suffered again when Hunterdon hit Moralist. Euryalus broke very fast and led the field to the far turn. Shot and Shell exhibited his usual early speed and was right after him. But at the far turn both tired and Moralist drove around on the outside to take the lead. Hunterdon moved with the latter and Uncle Fred, after much early trouble, was also coming fast. Hunterdon came into the stretch a head in front of Moralist. Uncle Fred was between the pair and was pinched off as they straightened out. At about the sixteenth post Hanford rode Hunterdon very close to the hard-charging Moralist and once more Uncle Fred, which was coming again, suffered. Hunterdon finished out with a length to spare and Moralist had two lengths over the unfortunate Uncle Fred. El Puma bled in the race and was pulled up. The day was fair and the race was run in 1:47 over a good track. The course was drying out rapidly as the racing progressed.
