NIGHT WATCH- EASY WINNER Makes Every Post at Agawam Win- ning One Proprietary Second, With Old State Third. AGAWAM, Mass., June 15. Coming back with a performance that topped her initial victory of the meeting, Night Watch, from the L. Zito stable, under an energetic ride by the veteran J. Bejshak, was winner of the Northampton Purse, a race under claiming conditions that was the best contest on the card at Agawam Park today. Meeting seven other seasoned three-year-olds in the event, which served as the fifth, Night Watch, a daughter of Prince of Wales, made every post a winning one in the six furlongs test and achieved her triumph by leading Proprietary to the end, while Old State took a camera decision for third over Miss Epe, who led the others in the field of eight. The Northampton was decided over a track that was left in slow condition from intermittent showers, and the race was a procession from the ring of the bell. The eight starters were away in good order, although Chauvin did not begin promptly with his company, with the result that he had little chance. Night Watch, particularly alert, stepped into a nice lead as the field left the gate, and, although pressed approaching the finish, was never seriously in danger of being overhauled. At the end, with Proprietary cutting down some of the. early margin enjoyed by the L. Zito plater, a length and one-half separated the pair as they crossed the line. Back of these Old State and Miss Epe waged a stirring argument for third place, and it went to the D. Hardy colorbearer in the last couple of strides. Casinghead led the others. Rain fell heavily at intervals to drive the assemblage to the cover of the stands, but fortunately the sport was exciting, despite the racing surface being several seconds slower than normal.
