WHOPPER HEADS THE LIST Tops Probable Starters in Arlington Parks ,000 Inaugural. Racing Secretary Charles McLennan Expects Field ,of at Least Fifteen in Opening Feature. ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, 111., June 22. Fifteen aces of the sprint colony are named by racing secretary Charles McLennan as probable starters in the ,000 Inaugural Handicap, the seven furlongs feature of the opening of the thirty days meeting at Arlington Park on Monday, June 28. Heading the colorful list is Hal Price Headleys Whopper, the thoroughbred giant which recently raced to ah impressive victory in the Wolverine Handicap at Detroit. The huge son of Pharamond U. will be shipped from Detroit in the division of Headley horses which will join the Chicago string of the stable now quartered here. Headley also has named Pre-eminent and Fraidy Cat. COUNT MORSE STARTER. Late Tuesday it was announced that Count Morse would not be shipped to Detroit for the Frontier Handicap but be kept here for the Inaugural Handicap at Arlington Park. Another dangerous contender from the motor city will be Sweep Like, which raced brilliantly for T. D. Buhl, young Detroit sportsman, during the Florida campaign. Sweep Like will be sent along in advance of the Buhl stable, which is due to arrive at Arlington Park on July 10. Warren Wright, master of Calumet Farm, likely will be represented by his four-year-old Crossbow II. and his three-year-old Talked About. Detroits Bomar Stable will pin its hopes on Billy Ree and Yellow Tulip. Case Ace, hero of the Illinois Derby and the 1936 Arlington Futurity, and Murph, another stake winner, are expected to carry the successful banner of Mrs. Ethel V. Mars Milky Way Stable in the Inaugural. Valdina Farms Sir Emerson, which won the Chicago Handicap at Washington Park, is another likely starter, while Mrs. Emil Denemark will pin her hopes on Finance and Higher Cloud. INCREASED IN VALUE. As part of its expanded stake and purse program, Arlington officials increased the added money in the Inaugural this year from ,500 to ,000. The Inaugural Handicap will be supported on the eight-race opening card by the ,500 Northgate Purse, for four-year-olds and upward, at a mile and a sixteenth over the turf course. Another supporting feature is the ,200 Barrington Purse, a mile race for three-year-olds. The card is rounded out by five races carrying purses of ,100, the highest minimum in American racing.
