WINN INSPECTS CRETE TRACK Authorizes Number of Improvements and Alterations States Mondays Off Big Help at Latonia. HOMEWOOD, 111., June 22. Col. M. J. Winn, who came here from Cincinnati for the American Derby and worlds heavyweight championship boxing match, yesterday made an inspection of the Lincoln Fields track with his track superintendent, Tom Young. Although he found the Crete plant in splendid condition, Colonel Winn has authorized a number of improvements and alterations, all to be completed before the track opens on August 2 for its annual meeting of thirty days. Colonel Winn reports an appreciable improvement in business at Latonia, and he believes that the experiment of not operating the track on Mondays, which was tried for the first time during the present meeting has proved helpful, if not worthy of permanent adoption for the Covington plant. Colonel Winn is returning to Cincinnati on Thursday, and a week from tomorrow, June 30, will celebrate his seventy-sixth birthday.
