UPSLALA, following along in pursuit of the pace established by CAPE RACE, moved up steadily when reaching the stretch and, taking command, drew clear at the end. CAPE RACE went to the front at the opening stride, drew clear before covering the first eighth and, holding on willingly, was unable to stall off the winner. LIMIT was in the first flight throughout and continued gamely to the close. MAZIE was away alertly, lacked speed to maintain her position, thereby dropping back but came with good energy in the stretch run. STANDARD TIME was permitted to drop back in the opening sixteenth, was going gamely at the end when too late. FRANCINE C. tired. DARK FRIEND moved up steadily on the outside after rounding the far turn, came wide into the stretch and, closing with splendid courage, wore down TIME SIGNAL to win going away. TIME SIGNAL was hard ridden to get to the front, met determined early opposition from SCOTTISH MARY, disposed of her and, although holding on with good energy, was unable to stave off the rush of the winner. SCOTTISH MARY had good speed from the start, was much used up in disputing the lead and was unable to keep pace with the leader in the last three-sixteenths. ERB was well placed .all the way. Won handily; second and third driving. LIBERTY FLIGHT was steadied along back of the pace until reaching the stretch, took command when called upon and held sway to the close. SWEET ADELINE moved up gradually and came with good energy through the stretch run. SURE CLOUD went to the front at once, drew clear in the opening sixteenth, only to tire when challenged in the stretch run. LADY INFINITE, in the thick of contention for the first half tired in the drive. JOCKIDE was impeded sharply when attempting to come through on the inside rounding the far turn, had to take back and was going willingly at the end. The others were outrun. Scratched 40938Capt. GARDEN MESSAGE took command in the run to the first turn, caused some crowding at the first turn, withstood determined opposition from HIGH DIVER, carried the latter wide at the stretch turn and, surrendering the lead nearing the finish, came again in the last strides. XANDRA, restrained in pursuit of the pace, moved up on the inside, where the leaders went wide at the stretch turn, gained a slight lead nearing the end, and just failed to last. HIGH DIVER was prominent all the way on the outside, was carried wide at the stretch turn, but tired slightly in the drive. CYNWYD moved up on the inside nearing the stretch, but lacked her usual closing burst of speed. DIZZY B. was going rapidly when too late. ABADDON was far back early, began moving up steadily in the last half mile, came to the outside when reaching the stretch and, closing with a rush, was up in the last few strides. SUN PILOT, restrained for the first, three-quarters, moved up to gain a slight lead in the stretch and, despite holding on gamely was not quite good enough. POST MERIDIAN trailed far back until leaving the back stretch and came with a. belated rush when straightening out in the stretch, HIGH VELOCITY, on the outside, disputed the lead with VIRNOCK for the first three-quarters and tired badly within, thirty yards of the finish. UNCLE FRED went to the front after wearing down the early pacemakers and only tired within a few strides of the finish. HUNTERDON attempted to duck to the inside after taking the opening strides and was .straightened out and, as usual, trailed early, but closed an immense gap. LONE HAND was outrun throughout. POTIPHAR moved up steadily on the outside in the run down the back stretch, took command beforr reaching the half mile ground and, drawing clear, dominated the running to the end, winning as his rider pleased. HOLDOUT was prominent all the way and continued with good energy to the end. SUGABOOT, restrained until leaving the back stretch, closed some ground, although never in a position, for the first three-quarters, to endanger the top two horses. PAMPERED held to his position for three-quarters. MERRY KIN was never prominent. HARLEQUINADE showed a dull effort. OUR UNCLE JOHN quit badly. Scratched 42354 Little Swede, 106. BYE BYE MARY outran her field to the first turn, drew clear by the time the back stretch was reached, fought It out gamely when challenged, but was not good enough for the winner. RECKLESS was well placed and reserved early, but was unable to close any ground in the drive. PACKAGE trailed early and closed a big gap. HOT CAKE could never reach the leaders. Overweight Reckless, 4 pounds.
