It is a rather remarkable coincidence that the 0,-000 added Santa Anita Derby, to be run on February 22 in the meeting opening here on December 31, drew 107 nominations, the exact number attracted by the 00,000 added Santa Anita Handicap. The eligible list, made public this morning by general manager Charles H. Strub of the Los Angeles Turf Club, fell a few shy of the record 111 received last year, and reveals an outstanding array of coming three-year-olds. Prominent stake winners in the two-year-old racing this year like Porters Mite, Time Alone, Xalapa Clown, Sweet Patrice, Touch and Go, Ciencia, Smart Crack, Bang, Yale oy Nine, Spot News, Say Judge and others which were runners-up, are on the grounds and getting ready for the issue. Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt took the lead, in naming the greatest number. He has eight of his current two-year-olds, recent arrivals, as candidates. The good colts, Impound and Adventurer, full brothers to Discovery, are among the number. WEIGHTS AT 120 POUNDS. The Santa Anita Derby weight has been set at 120 pounds, six below scale. The dis- tance remains the same as last year, when it was lengthened to one mile and an eighth.
