1 FAIR GROUNDS TURF NOTES I S 3 George B. McCamey, wealthy Texas -breeder and owner, was an arrival from the Lone Star State for a visit of several days. In addition to the horses that race in his own name McCamey is part owner of the McDee Stable. , Acting for Mrs. Edna - Oros, John Oros sold the plater Idle Worker to C. H. Grieve for a private consideration. Having recovered from a severe cold which kept him inactive Saturday, jockey Leon "Buddy" Haas made his return to the I saddle Monday afternoon at the Fair Grounds. George Planche has taken over the engagement book of apprentice Nick Spine for the remainder of the Louisiana Jockey Clubs meeting. Rollie Bridwell is conditioning the horses owned by M. J. Reed, a newcomer to the ranks of owners. Those belonging to Reed are Monith, Annino and Idle Elf. He is also looking after Ruckie for J. R. Bridwell. C. N. Brewer was an arrival from Shreve-port, La., with the plater Cornelia Powell, a consistent winner at that state jockey clubs autumn meeting. Edward Cecil Elam, seventeen-year-old lad from Lexington, Ky., had the second mount of his career when he rode Garden Message in the second race on Mondays program at the Fair Grounds. Elam is under contract to Ivan Parke and is regarded as an excellent prospect. i C. E. Stewart returned from a visit to his home in Corpus Christi, Texas, where he spent more than a week. Stewart has several horses quartered at the Fair Grounds and holds the contract on apprentice Jimmy Bowen. Word was received from E. D. "Doc" Slavin that he is making preparations for the shipment of four horses to the Fair Grounds within the next few days. Slavin rested his stock in Bloomfield, Mo., after the close of the fall meeting at Fairmount Park. A trainers license has been granted to W. M. Cox by the Louisiana Jockey Club stew-i ards and he will direct the training of the horses belonging to Mrs. Vera Wyse that remain at the Fair Grounds for campaigning. Apprentice Mike Pantone, who suffered a broken collar bone in a fall at Shreveport, has completely recovered from the injury and will resume riding shortly. Pantone is under contract to W. A. Mikel and will do most of the stables riding in the future. Dave Stone took out a trainers license and the Nebraskan will condition Humdrum, which he recently purchased from H. D. Cox for his own account. Jack Klein, well known radio announcer and master of ceremonies, was a visitor at the Fair Grounds Monday afternoon, stopr ping off in the Crescent City for a few days en route to Chicago. Klein has been j visiting with relatives in northern Louisiana for the past week. The division of the Le Mar Stock Farm being raced here by J. P. "Tiny" Keezek, has been transferred from Jefferson Park to the Fair Grounds, where they will remain for the rest of the season. N. J. Scallon, owner and trainer, returned from his home in Houston, Texas, where he spent a week with relatives. Scallon replaced his brother, B. G. Scallon, who was looking after the stock during his absence. Jockey Charles Pulley, one of the few colored reinsmen licensed by the Louisiana Jockey Club, had his first mount of the Fair i Grounds meeting Tuesday afternoon. Pulley is free lancing and this marks his return to I the saddle after an absence of more than a i year. I 1
