31 IN HIRSCH JACOBS STRING Americas Leading Trainer Now at Hialeah Park Course. Contestant for Share in ,500 Prize Which Joseph E. Widener Is Offering Leading Conditioner. MIAMI, Fla., Dec. 14. With thoroughbred arrivals already reaching the 900 mark for Hialcah Parks January 11 to March 4 meeting, the leading trainers of America will be represented here this winter. Foremost on the list is Hirsch Jacobs, the Brooklyn sensation, who this year tied the consecutive winning streak of H. G. Bedwell. Each went unchallenged as Americas leading trainer for six straight years. Bedwells reign began in 1912 and continued through 1917. Jacobs winning streak got under way in 1933 and continued through 1938. While Bedwell is onand up in the point of number of yearly championships, he also having earned the title of leading trainer in 1909, Jacobs is undisputed king in the winners circle. Jacobs also holds the record of having scored the most number of winners in any single year. This he accomplished in 1936, with 177, which topped the previous all-time high established by the late C. B. "Cowboy" Irwin in 1923 of 147 winners. It also is of interest to note that Jacobs, during his yearly winning streak, never fell below the 100 mark. BRILLIANT FEATS. Jacobs feats are all the more brilliant when it is considered that, with rare exceptions, his triumphs were scored with ordinary horses, for the stable that he trains for his wife, Ethel D. Jacobs, has boasted of very few thoroughbreds of stake caliber. Listed for this winters Hialeah campaign by Jacobs are thirty-one horses, already bedded down at Joseph E. Wideners magnificent course. These are Al Neiman, ten-year-old; Observant, Night Sprite, Rebel Yell, Baydrop, Old Story and Peedeeque, seven-year-olds; Wise Prince, Epical and Galloping, six-year-olds; Velvet Mask, Jack Patches and Cerisse HL, five-year-olds; Beau Parade, four-year-old; Sea Voyage, Cantwell, Gert B. and Mixed Weather, three-year-olds; Ales-sano, Loisestelle S., Al G., Henryels Pick, Nickolos S., General Hawes, Lee S., Nikki B., Georgia Peach and Pete Wendling, two-year-olds, and three yearlings. With ,500 at stake, which president Widener will divide into 00 sums, to be awarded leading trainers every fifteen days, Jacobs and other trainers have further incentive to get into the winners circle.
