SPILLWAY NEAR BEST FORM NEW ORLEANS, La., Dec. 14. Work tabs indicate that several of the better grade of thoroughbreds, which have been given a rest, are nearing condition to make their return to competition at the Fair Grounds within the near future. The stables of Joe W. Brown, E. K. Bryson, Anthony Pelleted and several larger outfits have their charges in training now. Spillway, which has not yet been seen under colors here this season, and Quinella, a juvenile well thought of in the Brown stable, give promise of being ready to make their seasonal debut if the way they act is any indication of their rounding to fitness. However, the most extensive trial that Spillway has indulged in thus far was a sprint of five furlongs, which the son of Cohort traversed in 1:02, flat, in handy manner. Another from this barn being prepared for an" early race is the Souti American invader, Lieber, which has been three-quarters of a mile in as good as 1:16, handily, according to the work-watchers.
