1 BOWIE TURF NOTES f Among recent arrivals at Havre de Grace Friday were Tommy Rodrock with the K. E. Hitt horses from winter quarters, E. B. Townsend, Major G. L. Stryker and H. W. Jackson. The latter shipment included the Arkansas Derby winner, Ariel Toy. Eighteen maidens made their first appearance at the schooling gate at Havre de Grace Friday morning. A five-year-old, Thunalta, three-year-old, Red Player, and a two-year-old, all non-starters, received their first lessons. The trio is owned by E. B. Townsend. Trainer Hirsch Jacobs celebrated his thirty-fifth birthday Friday in a quiet manner. Al Burlen, clerk of the scales on the New York tracks, left here for Jamaica to await the opening of the Metropolitan season. The stewards ordered that the further entry of the horse Chief Cherokee be refused. The apprentice allowance claimed for Joaney B., Memana, Mighty Busy and Slattern, was waived by the stewards Friday upon request of their trainers. Harry A. Manley of the Cumberland Fair Association was a visitor and discussed plans for the meeting with Edward J. Brennan. Ray Bryson reported that the racing strip at Belair, Md., is being rebuilt and with increased stable accommodations 800 horses can be accommodated. Jockey J. Kacala arrived, from California and applied for a license. He will ride for James Neal. When the new judges stand atop the grandstand is ready for use this fall the finish line at Bowie will be moved some thirty or forty feet from its present position This will bring about a change in all the posts and starting points on the track. Jockey R. Workman was engaged to ride E. K. Brysons Nosy in the Bowie Kindergarten Stakes, leading juvenile fixture of the meeting.
