WALTER WINCHELL HONORED BOSTON, Mass., April 7. In recognition of his contributions "to a greater appreciation of democracy and understanding," Walter Winchell, newspaper columnist, today was awarded the "Advocate Carnation," given annually by the newspaper Jewish Advocate. The citation accompanying the award read in part: "Read by millions of avid followers each day, Winchells column has lost no opportunity continually to stress the highest ideals of patriotism, and has at all times exerted a powerful influence in behalf of the oppressed and persecuted."
