EXPECT MORE NOMINATIONS Supplementary Entries for Classic Stakes Close April 15. Challedon, Ciencia, Volitant, El Chico and Our Mat Among Those Expected to Join the List of Entrants. Supplementary entries, carrying a subscription of ,500 and due to close on April 15, will round out the nominations for the 0,000 added Classic Stakes to truly championship proportions, predicted officials of Arlington Park, ranking mid-west racing grounds, here today. With seventy-three stars of the three-year-old division remaining on the list after the second payments were made, the important Classic Stakes will pick up several of the small group of divisional leaders not included already and make it again a stake worthy of such earlier winners as Blue Larkspur, Gallant Fox, Mate, Cavalcade, Omaha and Granville. Among those expected to join the list through the avenue of the ,500 supplementary fee are W. L. Branns Challedon, winner of three futurities last year; King Ranchs Ciencia, heroine of the 0,000 Santa Anita Derby; Saratoga Stables Volitant; William Ziegler, Jr.s El Chico, champion juvenile of 1938, and his highly regarded stablemate, Our Mat. REVISE CONDITIONS. Conditions for the Classic Stakes were revised in 1938 and the renewal in July will be the first leg of the new conditions converting the race into a futurity. There were 152 original nominations made for the 1939 event of July 15. The new conditions point to a marked increase in the value of the Classic. It is estimated that the 1939 renewal will gross about 0,000 and will net the winner about 8,000. As in 1938, the winning owner will be presented with one of the most valuable racing trophies in America a fourteen-carat solid gold replica of the Coronation Cup won in England by Mrs. John Hertzs Reigh Count in 1929. The Classic Stakes annually is the highlight of the Mid-West racing season at the Arlington Park meeting. This year the meeting will run from June 26 to July 29, inclusive.
