CHARMED ONE RETAINS FORM Keeps Moving Up in Higher Class and Continues to Triumph. Gelded Son of Lucky Tom Scores Fifth Straight Victory Maloney Suffers Injury in FaU. MIAMI, Fla.f April 7. T. H. Cross Charmed One moves up and up and keeps on winning. The gelded son of Lucky Tom scored his fifth straight victory in Florida as he beat a good field of sprinters in the five and a half furlongs dash that featured the next to final day of the Tropical Park meeting. Euclid Le Blanc completed a double as he drove his mount home a length and a half clear of J. B. Partridges Sun-time, setting virtually all of the pac. Charmed One has scored four victories at the Tropical meeting and one during the short session at Gulf stream Park. Charmed One left little doubt of his superiority this afternoon, shaking off bids from three different horses and drawing away at the end to finish in 1:05. The track, which received a severe drenching this morning, must be rated one of the fastest drying courses in the country with its new dressing of top soil. It was fast by race time. The sun beat down this afternoon following the morning rains, but the inclement weather before noon kept many persons from the rack. WIIA HAE THIRD. L. M. Biggs Wha Hae finished third in the feature, a neck off the fast-closing Suntime and a head in advance of Saunderstown. Noel H. and William Palmer were the only other starters. They ran as named. Charmed One went to the front soon after the start, with Saunderstown pursuing him to the far turn. There the latter began to falter, but Charmed One could not draw clear, for Wha Hae came up to challenge. Charmed One was half a length in the van of Wha Hae in the stretch. He shook off the latter in the run to the sixteenth post and then met a strong bid from Suntime, which was moving from the ruck in the final yards. He staved off all challenges in game fashion. Fair, from the successful Darby Dan establishment, lost the lead and regained it again to beat Mrs. W. Emersons Red Hay by a nose in the three-quarters opening event. Cosgrave Stables Golden Thought finished third, a length off the battling leaders. Jack Fly vas a close fourth. Jimmy Ashcroft, who has clinched honors as the leading rider of the Gables season, was aboard the winner. The time was l:124i. The track, despite a thorough drenching from morning downpours, was fast by the time racing opened. FAVORITE TRIUMPHS. D. J. Schneiders Idle Sun, the favorite, proved easily best in the second event, taking the lead on the far turn and gaining from that point on to beat C. B. Ashers Honey-maid by three lengths. Euclid LeBlanc, one of the best apprentices of the Tropical season, put up an excellent ride on the winner, moving at the right moment and saving ground all the way. Jerry McCarthy Stables Old Main Road finished third, a length off the runner-up and just a head in advance of Bert W. Honeymaid set the early pace, pursued by Endora, with the winner rated fourth. Approaching the far turn, LeBlanc moved with Idle Sun, took the lead readily and, hugging the rail, showed on top by four lengths at the eighth post. It was just a gallop for the winner from that marker to the wire. The third event was marked by a nasty looking fall when Panjab either hit a wet spot or stepped in a hole at the eighth post and went down with Earl Maloney. Three horses went over the youngster, all appearing to kick him. Maloney, attempting to rise to his knees, was quickly hustled from the track in the ambulance, which arrived before the field had pulled up. The half-mile event for juveniles was won by River Divide Farms Court o Mint, heavily backed favorite, which set all of the pace, but barely lasted to stave off Flying Horse Farms Macks Arrow by a nose. J. W. Barnes What Fun finished third, half a length farther back, and Nutty was a distant fourth. J. G. Wilson rode the winner, which finished in :48.
