1 — - — — ■ - ■ Kentucky Derbys of Past— From I907 to WO, Inclusive 1 • — . — — — — « • In previous editions Daily Racing Form has reprinted the charts of the Kentucky Derby beginning with the Lawrin victory in 1938 back to 1919 when Sir Barton surprised the turf world by carrying off. the coveted prize as a maiden, never having won a race until that eventful day in May, We believe our readers have found the reproduction of these charts of considerable interest and, but for the increasing number of meetings now under way or about to begin, these tabulations would be continued. However, such is not possible, though a brief summary of the Derbys of the past will be presented if space permits. Two-year-old form — 8 starts, 2 wins, 1 second, 0 thirds. STONE STREET— 1908. In 1908, the year of the Institution of the pari-mutuel system for a second era in Kentucky, the track was muddy and C. E. Hamiltons Stone Street, paying 23 60, won easily, with Sir Cleges, the favorite; Dun-vegan, Synchronized and Banbridge heads apart. It was a bad band. Two-year-old form— 17 starts, 3 wins, 3 seconds, 1 third. WINTERGREEN 1909. Next year Wintergreen V. Powers won for Rome Respess and. he was bred in Ohio being a son of Dick Welles and the only horse foaled in the Buckeye State to win the race. He was a son of Woolsthorpe and owned by William. Gerst of Nashville, Tenn. He eat Joe Morris and Fighting Bob in a close finish. Donau was the favorite.
