THREATENS MORGAN HOLDUP I . NEW YORK, N. Y„ April 28— "I will hold up J. P. Morgans office, Wall Street headquarters, at 11:07 a. m., April 28, 1939. Humanity always goes forward. Signed John Bowie Carter." That telegram, addressed to a New York newspaper, sent police swarming to the House of Morgan at 23 Broad Street today. Promptly at the given moment a mild-mannered man .in a gray topcoat walked into the building and handed a guard a card on which was written: "This is a humanitarian holdup. Please bring me a certified check for a million dollars." Out came the waiting officers and they grabbed the man. "Give us your gun," they demanded. "Ive got no gun," said the man, reaching for his coat pocket, "but Ive got this." He brought out a bag containing six lollypops. They hauled him away for arraignment later in The Tombs. He said he was an Englishman and hoped to use the million to sponsor a play he is thinking of writing.
