PORTSMOUTH ATTRACTS NINE Denemark Entry of War Minstrel and Genie Palatine Likely Favorite at Narragansett Park. PAWTUCKET, R. I., April 28.— Nine of the twenty nominees have been named for the ,000 added Portsmouth Handicap, which will feature the week-end sport at Narragansett Park, with Ben Whitakers Mythical King, shipped here especially for the event, the starting highweight under 115. It is unlikely that the top-weighted horse will rule the choice, however, for Mrs. Emil Denemark is sending forth a formidable pair in War Minstrel and Genie Palatine, which finished one-three in the feature here on Wednesday. This event was at six furlongs, but War Minstrel won a convincing victory and has ten pounds less to carry under 106. Genie Palatine, which also ran a good race last out, finishing in front of the highly regarded Kentucky Derby candidate Silent Witness, is in tomorrows event under 102. GOOD CONDITIONER. Felix Spatolas Wise Prince finished a close second to Be Blue in the Spring Handicap, opening day feature at Narragansett and will go into the Portsmouth with 111 pounds on his back. Sun.Inplay has been working well for the race and off the form he displayed in Florida this winter may be hard to beat with 111 in the saddle. R. A. Coward will send forth both Be Jabbers and Polly Hastings. Busy K. has been shipped here for the race by L. E. Ogle, mainly in the hope of a muddy track. It was freezing cold as the sport opened today, but such a condition appeared unlikely. Busy K. was a stake winner through slop here last season. Prospects were for continued cold weather in the New England section. Today the thermometer was under 40 degrees all afternoon, and if such conditions continue there will probably be a small crowd out for the sport.
