STAR FIELD IN PHILADELPHIA Bull Lea and Burning Star Entered in 0,000 Added Handicap. Bull Lea Will Carry Top Weight of 126 Pounds in Havre Headliner if He Goes to the Post. HAVRE DE GRACE, Md., April 28— The twenty-seventh running of the Philadelphia Handicap tops the closing-day program arranged by racing secretary Charles J. McLennan at Havre de Grace tomorrow. The headliner, which carries an added value of 0,000, is to be contested over the one mile and a sixteenth distance, and despite the outlook for an off-track, twelve good distance performers have been named for the special, the entrants including Shandon Farms Burning Star, winner of the 1938 renewal of the race. Top weight of the dozen has been allotted to Calumet Farms Bull Lea. The. four-year-old son of Bull Dog earns the distinction by his victory in the Widener Challenge Cup at Hialeah Park, but his participation in tomorrows race is doubtful because of the condition of the track, due to incessant heavy rainfall. McLennan asks Bull Lea to carry 126 pounds. LIKELY FAVORITE. Shandon Farms Burning Star will likely be favorite in the Philadelphia. He has been a consistent sort of late and, in addition to winning this race last year, accounted for two good races impressively at Keeneland this year. This is sufficient to attest to his present excellent condition and good racing fortune may see him first home. His burden tomorrow is 116 pounds. Mrs. Parker Comings Thanksgiving will come in for stout support from the split-second experts by reason of excellent trials. Known to have a fondness for an off-track, this son of Bud Lerner has impressed in his works. He has not started since his disappointing performance at Santa Anita. The hopes of Maryland will be carried by Ral Parrs Hypocrite. This easy-striding son of Wrack gave evidence of present good condition as he romped away with the Bowie Handicap this spring. Under 115 pounds he rates serious thought with this caliber of competition. Belair Studs Isolater -is making his seasonal debut, but his known high regard for Continued on thirty-fourth page. Branns Fredrick County Farm will be represented by a pair in Aethelwold and Challephen. The former received his conditioning race here and emerged victor of that event. He might go on to show improvement. Challephen has been unfortunate in finishing in the runner-up position in both the Bowie and Southern Maryland Handicaps this spring. The other two starters are the A. C. C. Stables Gerald and John A. Manfusos Ocean Roll. While both of these are recognized mud runners, victory over these opponents would be in the nature of a surprise. Despite the outlook for an "off" track, there is foreseen a keenly contested running in the Philadelphia, and if present weather conditions moderate, there should be a good attendance on hand to witness the final day of the sport for the meeting. With this in view, the management has made arrangements for additional train service.
