SHAKER-MAN was bothered shortly after the start and, eased back to the inside, was then rated along to the final eighth and finishing with good courage, drew away, winning with something in reserve. MELISSA showed speed from the start, but was quickly steered toward the outside and was a forward factor all the way to hold on with good courage in the final sixteenth. PENELOPE D. was close up from the start and thtn finished well at the end. MESS, in near pursuit of the early pace, had no mishaps at the end. SUPREMA began slowly and could never menace the leaders. MILLTEA was outrun. BABY BOOTIES and BALLYHASTE could never menace the leaders after colliding after the start. SECOND RACE ABOUT 2 1-2 MILES. Sydney, Sept. 12, 1931—4:39—6—140. Won driving; second and third easily. CORRIGAN was outrun to the first turn of the field, moved up when urged the final half mile on the outside, bothered WARSPITE slightly coming to the next to the last fence and then wore down DRINTHORN in the final drive. The latter was a forward factor all the way, responded after being bothered and then finished well. WARSPITE lacked early speed from the start, made a determined bid when urged after hobbling at one of his fences and then tired. BETTER BROOK was well up all the way although fencing weakly. FLYING FEATHERS had early speed and then quit. TIOGA was never a factor at any stage. FACTION FIGHTER was outrun. BARTHOLDI lost rider at fifteenth fence and CANIO fell at the fourteenth fence. JINX BUSTER was in close quarters in the early running, worked his way clear and then moved up on the outside rounding the stretch, finished gamely under pressure and held DINAH DESMOND safe in the final drive. The latter was well up from the start, dropped back at the far turn and then was steered to the outside entering the stretch and finished with a rush. BROAD TAIL showed early speed while saving ground and had no mishaps in the running. .EDELAD was well up all the way and had no mishaps in the running. SELF SERVICE lacked early speed and then finished well. SUBSTANTIAL dwelt at the start and was never a factor. KAMPORT could not keep up. MR. JERSEY was outrun from the start. ZELKOVA broke quickly and, in nearest pursuit of the pace from the start, had no mishaps in the running. JESSIE GLADYS was well up from the start and could not menace the leaders at any stage. STEEP was under pressure on the inside in the final quarter mile and failed to gain on the leaders. DISCERNING raced well throughout. BUSY FINGERS was green all the way. BE PREPARED had a flash of early speed. CORSICA had no mishaps. RUGGED ROCK raced well. SOLAR TOPI was never a serious factor. BEST ONE and DUSKY GIRL raced greenly. ROSE POMENT was outrun. SUN LOVER was bothered after the start and dropped back, was placed under pressure rounding the far turn and closed with a rush at the end. MY PORTER raced forwardly from the start, made a determined bid in the stretch and had no mishaps. AFFAIR was close enough in the early stages and failed to improve his position at the end. BLACK LOOK worked his way up on the outside, lost ground entering the stretch, then finished well. LA CHARITE showed speed from the start and had no mishaps. WEARY FLOWER was kept in a forward position from the start. ENDYMION was rushed in the back stretch, saved ground entering the stretch turn and then tired. MAERIEL lacked early speed.
