ATTRACTS BLACK BRUMMEL Crack Juvenile Expected to Be in the Starting Field for Detroits St. Clair Stakes Saturday. - DETROIT, Mich, May 25.— Although only ten two-year-olds are eligible to Saturdays renewal of the §2,000 added St. Clair Stakes, the five-furlong dash is expected to attract Black Brummel, one of the best regarded two-year-olds of midwestern racing. However, whether he is as good as rated will not be fully determined until he turns back the Dixiana pair of Shortstop and Radiogram, winner and runner-up at their first asking, and Mistletoe, another speedy youngster from the same barn. Black Brummel, son of St. James, stepped into the limelight by a brilliant effort over an adverse track at Keeneland. In his next start, the Bashford Manor Stakes at Churchill Downs, he was soundly trounced by Roman, considered the best youngster to show in the Midwest in several years. Black Brummel, however, bad some excuse for the colt was running a temperature when returned to his quarters and this, no doubt, prevented him from showing his best effort. DOMKIN RIVAL. Another expected to question the superiority of Black Brummel is Domkin. This son of Ladkin, now performing under the Detroit-owned silks of Ted Buhl, displayed fine ability in Maryland competition. Others nominated for the stakes, won last year by Calumet Farms Beau James, are Mrs. W. M. Emersons Higold, Glad Acres Farms Joe Greenock and Sir Greenock, Indian Lake Stables Maenerva, and McCamey and Deaners Little Davey. The St. Clair will be the first of three stakes for two-year-olds to be run during the current meeting. The next juvenile fixture will be the Sallan Cup Handicap, and then will come the Moslem Temple Stakes.
