OMAHA OFFICIALS OPTIMISTIC Successful Meeting at Ak-Sar-Ben j Predicted— Good Horses Available. Offering Nebraska Fans Racing at Popular Prices — Grounds Thrown Open for Inspection by Public. OMAHA, Neb., May 25. — An aura of supreme confidence that the impending meeting at Ak-Sar-Ben will be a success was expressed this morning by W. H. Schellberg, chairman of racing, and J. J. Isaacson, activities manager. "The best meeting we ever had" is the way manager Isaacson describes the prospects for the twenty-nine-day session which gets under way Saturday, May 27, and runs through July 4. "In keeping with the policies of our organization," Schellberg said, "we have the best class of horses ever to race at Ak-Sar-Ben. We have a capable body of officials, which gives us every reason to hope we will get the necessary patronage from Omaha and adjacent cities. We have arranged for several important events, which was our primary motive to attract the best performers available to fill our handicaps and overnight races. It makes better racing." With these factors taken care of, the many innovations and improvements instituted at Ak-Sar-Ben, the picturesque plant will be more inviting than ever. Our endeavors to bring the top-notch performers here is attested by the many stars we have among the hundreds of horses already on the grounds at present. ALL OFFICIALS ON HAND. Appealing to the racing patrons is the plan to offer the sport at Ak-Sar-Ben at popular prices, following the policy adopted by the leading tracks of the nation. The arrival Wednesday of the entire, corps of officials which will supervise the racing added impetus to the preparations for the opening of the annual meeting. The racing secretarys office buzzed with activity and was congested with horsemen registering their horses and trainers and jockeys filing their applications. The office of chairman Schellberg also presented a busy scene as last minute plans for the opening day were being rushed to completion. The stands and other parts of the spacious plant received their annual cleaning, while the grounds were being put into presentable shape and the "tote" machines were subjected to the preliminary functioning to determine their accuracy. The grounds were thrown open to the public Wednesday for inspection and approximately 3,000 accepted the invitation of the management. It was noted that many of the visitors jame in cars from other states, revealing the interest which is manifested by the racegoers, not only from local Omaha, * but other points.
