CLEVELAND, Ohio, May 25.— Darby Dan Farms five-year-old bay gelding Francesco, conqueror of a formidable band of rivals in the Governors Handicap last Saturday at Beulah Park, has been assigned the post of honor in the North Randall Inaugural Handicap, mile and one-sixteenth feature attraction on Saturday afternoons program. Weights were assigned the ten eligibles by handicapper Julius G. Reeder today and the Ohio-owned gelded son of Jacopo — Heloise will shoulder 122 pounds when he goes post-ward in quest of the ,500 added event that headlines the eight-race card. Held next . highest in esteem of the handicapper is Mrs. | W. E. Martins Drudgery, an invader from the Maryland sector, which has been allotted 116 pounds. Efforts are being made by trainer W. E. Martin to obtain the services of either Jackie Westrope or Alfred Robertson to come here to handle the former Brookmeade Stable campaigner in his engagement at the central Ohio track. Offers have been extended to both reinsmen, whose prominence is well known to racing fans throughout the nation. CREDITABLE PERFORMANCES. In his start at the recent Pimlico meeting Drudgery finished second to Pagliacci, giving a creditable account of himself, and is being counted on to provide some strong competition for Francesco, as is" M. J. Schmitts Sortie Star, whose latest bid for prominence in the handicap division was an impressive runner-up race to Arabs Arrow in the Kentucky Handicap on the final day of the Churchill Downs meeting. Arabs Arrow, undefeated in three performances during the recent Churchill Downs season, was extended to the limit to take the measure of the Schmitt colorbearer by the margin of slightly more than a length. The son of Sortie is xated three pounds lower than the weight allotment of Drudgery, and therefore is being asked to handle 113 pounds on the occasion. Neighbor, candidate from the stable of Jesse Spencer for the opening days stake, which is the first of a group of eight to be staged during thirty-three days of thoroughbred sport at the Buckeye States newest track, will carry a burden of 110 pounds, the same figure that was accorded Mrs. A. M. Creechs Dusky Prince, while A. C. Snyders Pompeys Pillar ranks next in order, with 108 pounds, and High One, from the same stable, takes up 104 pounds as his impost.
