WHEELING PLANT PREPARED West Virginia Track Officials Are Predicting Best Meeting in History of the Popular Island Course. WHEELING, W. Va., May 26.— The second hundred head of horses moved into stalls at Wheeling Downs at a rapid pace during the past week and "Little Saratoga" needed only the complete set of officials and the mutuel department set up to begin the meeting. From the standpoint of the thoroughbred the sixteen-day session opening Saturday afternoon will be the finest tri-state district turf followers have ever seen. Among the newest arrivals, and it is almost certain that the steady stream of vans will have the island stables completely filled by today, are many strong stables, large and small. The biggest string completed yesterday morning is that of Frank Woods, Indianapolis sportsman, who owns and trains ten runners, shipped in two vans from Beulah Park. He has Miss Monk, Notch, Herb, La Sweep, Michael H., Double Nugget, Exclusive, No Change, Blue Blazer and Col. Hatfield. The last named has been seen under silks on many big time tracks in past seasons. SEEK STALL ROOM. Coming from all directions, horsemen have swarmed stable manager Peck Gebhard with their requests for placement. Only those who produced confirmation of reservations from racing secretary William M. Shew-bndge are being admitted to Downs barns. Maryland contributed several prospective winners to the local colony when Clarence Johnson arrived with Sky Hostess, Nice Work and Contrite. The last two will race in the colors of H. H. Wilson. V. T. Carter came from Timonium with Daddy Timerole and Lapis; R. C. Watts came in the same van from Laurel with the good | colt Prince Pettie, Maeshack, Automacho and Swing Lady, and J. McNamara brought Chance Queen, Capt. Jerry and Sir Isaac from Pimlico. Out of Batavia, N. Y., is A. J. OConnor who has Rabian Myth, Roberta and Monoc-acy. In the same consignment was D. Scarboroughs Little Brad and Lawful Miss and the Colledo Brothers* Moth Wing.
