Steeplechase Provides Real Thriller, With Drinkthorn the Winner by a Head — French Trap Another Victor. STANTON, Del., June 22— A failure In nine starts this season, Zostera, from the Mrs. C. W. Williams stable, made his tenth effort a winning one when he took the measure of six other better than average sprinters to account for the fifth race on a featureless card at Delaware Park today. Beaten in his three local starts and a half dozen in Maryland, the five-year-old son of John P. Grier — Sea Moss registered in con-, vincing fashion when he came from behind to land winning honors by five lengths and mark up the second riding success of jockey George Seabo, who rode Bell Chimes to victory earlier in the day. His score was timed in 1:1316 over the racing strip that was in fast condition for the first time this week, and it took place over Tall Tree Stables consistent Steady Don. Third was captured by Ugin, from the O. S. Jennings stable, and Idle Sun led the others in the wide open con- test. The others in silks were Forfend, Double Back and Candle Ends, which fin-| ished in that order. THRILLING CONTEST. The steeplechase of the day provided one of the most thrilling contests ever seen through the field here, with Drinkthorn get- ting up and outlasting Sussex by a head. The latter struck his fences repeatedly and was punished all the way. But for these mishaps he might have won. Another sparkling finish came In the fourth race, in which French Trap overtook and beat Barbara A. in the final strides, after the latter appeared a certain winner. Zostera for the reason that he was break- ing from number one position in the six fur- longs chute, was overlooked in the specula- tion and he was one of three horses during the current meeting that have registered f | from that stall, which has been more or less a hoodoo here. Breaking better than the average starter from that position jockey | Seabo had Zostera in third place early as I Steady Don and Double Back sped out to • lead the way. These two were heads apart down the far side of the track and the C. W. Williams gelding was kept under light urging to keep the leading pair from drawing clear. Waiting until well around the turn, Seabo permitted the son of John P. Grier r to edge up on the outside then readily forged into the lead at the stretch turn to widen out , | in the last eighth after assuming command. " j ! Steady Don, holding on well, saved the place | i by half a length and Ugin was up in the j | last couple of strides to land third, With the exception of two races for j | j maiden two-year-old fillies the card at the | j j Stanton racing grounds was made up of . I claiming races. Conditions were pleasant for j I the sport and a rather good crowd was j I j present. The plater Flying Heart, owned by A. B. ] Parker, was brought here from Charles ; i j Town, W.
