Arthur T. Brown today saluted New " York in the first ship-to-shore telephone e conversation from the new vessel. The e grizzled pilot exultantly said: "This new v ship has more than exceeded our expecta-■0 tions. You New Yorkers have a treat in store when you see her. Shes the prettiest I I thing to put into New York in a long time." Despite the vessels size, she is 772 feet long, » " only slightly shorter than her famous name-I sake, the new ship "handles as easily as a a yacht," Captain Brown said. Speaking Z directly from the Mauretanias bridge, Captain " Brown added: "The most amazing thing S I about her, the thing that won us all over ;r | instantly is the absolute absence of vibra- l_ ; tion. For a ship this size that is really v wonderful. She has no more vibration than tn a canoe, and that makes for solid comfort, which we certainly are enjoying." The new I ship has maintained an average speed of f I twenty-three knots, but no attempt has been j made to push her yet. 1 _.
