Belle Isle Putse Will Engage Shifty Band of Sprinters at Detroit Today Wise Moss Likely Favorite Over Her Six Rivals Eight Juveniles in Other Feature DETROIT, Mich., May 26. Eight well- balanced races are on the program for I presentation at the Detroit Fair Grounds tomorrow and two features will serve as the headline offerings. The ,000 Belle Isle Purse, a six-furlong sprint for horses three-year-olds and upward, will occupy the sixth position on the card. The ,500 Youngsters Purse will be decided as the fifth race and drew the entries of eight of the fleetest two-year-olds on the grounds. Wise Moss, representative of Mrs. Edward McCuan, is slated to answer the bugle for the Belle Isle and she probably will rule as choice over her six rivals. The McCuan filly always has been a favorite with Detroit turf followers and her record here during 1941 was an outstanding one. Wise Moss suffered interference Saturday when she contested a division of the Boots and Saddle Handicap, but that effort may serve as a tightener for tomorrows engagement. The McCuan filly will meet sterling opposition in the Beile Isle as she will be called upon to match strides with such good one as Smart and Bakers Last Gold, B. M. Smiths useful Cooling Spring, Rose-dale Stables Anxiety, Mrs. A. M. Creechs Valdina Groom, A. L. Wellmans Boom On and Samuel J. Briskins Camp Verde. Camp Verde, a son of Hygro and Campion, is trained by Eddie Presnell and gave proof of his class at Oaklawn Park this spring when he annexed two sprint features there. The Briskin gelding won the Marquette Purse at the expense of Night Editor, Stalking and other good ones. Previous to that effort, Camp Verde accounted for an overnight allowance dash, leading some of the better Spa speedsters home. The youngsters will bring out a crack field of juveniles and H. R. Penneys I Lov Bridge probably will share strongest sup- . port with H. L. Dickersons Burning Sands. Both of these two-year-olds have shown, to good advantage during their 1942 campaigns and they have started over the Detroit course. Others named to go post-ward are Darby Dan Farms Darby Diadem, who will be coupled in the wagering with I Lov Bridge; Mrs. H. P. Bonners Prince Puck, Tall Trees Stables Daring Feat, Kenneth Murchisons Thunder Bow, W. H. Hoists Good Daughter and Blue Stem Stables Icy Run. The initial offering on the mid-week program will be at one mile and a sixteenth, the second, third and fourth events are at six furlongs and the seventh and eighth races both are to be run at the mile and seventy yards distance. Post time for the first event Wednesday I will be at the usual twilight hour, 4:45 I p. m. Eastern War xniis. 1
