HARKIM, away slowly and outrun to the stretch, came through on the inside when closing with a rush, then got up just inside the final sixteenth and won with something left. ARIEL BIRD displayed the most speed from the start, came out slightly in the stretch and held on well, but could not withstand the challenge of the winner. DON DEVITO forced the early pace in hand, swerved after being forced out entering the stretch and faltered briefly nearing the final eighth, but finished well. SOME MAN raced evenly. JAMES QUEST tired in the final sixteenth. PUTITTHERE moved into contention when urged, but faltered suddenly in the last fifty yards. Overweight Ariel Bird, 2 pounds. SECOND RACE 5-8 MILE. BOLO SIS, slow to settle into her best stride, started up slowly after reaching the turn, came out in the stretch and, finishing fast, headed HI MURT in the closing strides. The latter, a strong factor from the start, hung on gamely under light pressure. TIMOCRACY had good speed, but began to tire before completing a half mile. DARK ADVICE, shuffled back slightly in the first .eighth, moved up when clear, but did not rally in the drive and gave way nearing the end. POOJO was blocked in the stretch. STRING BAND took command gradually, crossed to the inside after reaching the main course, steadily increased his advantage while racing in hand and was shaken up in the stretch, but probably had something in reserve at the end. BEST QUALITY was under mild pressure after five-eighths and held on well. THE OBJECT moved up entering the stretch, but did not menace the leaders. NOPALOSA RED closed fairly well on the inside. BULLDINGER took command quickly and crossed to the inside soon after the start, then was taken back repeatedly while - making the pace to the stretch and, aftefdrawing cut under pressure, was strongly urged to the finish. CLEARMONT had speed and drifted out soon after reaching the stretch, then closed well after being straightened. CRYSTAL, a factor from the start, held on well, but just lasted to obtain a dead heat with AGRICOLE. The latter, in close quarters early, lost much ground on the stretch turn and: finished strongest to be on even terms with CRYSTAL at the end. CAM FIN had speed, but veered out when failing to keep up in the drive KANSAS CITY raced wide to the stretch. SHORTENING, taken back under timid handling, was outrun. Overweight Crystal, 3 pounds. HERMINA B., taken in hand after being hustled into command and taken to the inside on the first turn, was steadied to the stretch, opened up a commanding lead with a rush and won in hand. ROSE-RED was linder pressure after reaching the last five-sixteenths, came out in the stretch and held on gamely. WILLIAM PALMER dropped out of contention when racing on the inside after reaching the first turn, did not respond to pressure as if sulking when leaving the back stretch, then came to the middle of the. track in the final quarter and closed well. HOLLY, away slowly and much the best, improved her position rather rapidly after the opening quarter and, taking a4 commanding advantage with a rush under vigorous riding in the stretch, was not endangered thereafter. BOLUTE, unable to keep up through the back stretch, was blocked after reaching the second turn, but came with a rush on the inside in the stretch. MAGALOY, badly outrun early, moved up on the outside after going five-eighths, then bore over slightly through the stretch and headed RATION at the end. The latter tired under pressure. SKIPPERS MATE began slowly and was never a threat. MIRRORED saved much ground, but began to drop back on the stretch turn and swerved under pressure in the final quarter. BOXIDA quit.
