Michigan Notes DETROIT, Mich., May 26. Thurston Colglazier is conditioning the nine horses which are scheduled to race here under the silks of I. J. Collins, chairman of the Ohio Racing Commission. Colglazier will look after the Ohio-owned contingent until Al Miller is sufficiently recovered from his illness to again take them over. Reed Hess, front office chief at the Fair Grounds, spent Sunday and Monday in Cleveland, assisting with the early preparations for the Thistle Down meeting, which will have its inaugural Saturday, May 30. Frank Muth registered five horses for B. W. Stivers and J. Willis checked in with Diego Red, Star Whiz, Havaheart and Bright Novet, all of which will race for R. L. Stivers. Both units came to Detroit from Kentucky. P. L. Grissom, local business man, and Harold Sherman have 12 horses registered for campaigning at the local track. Sherman is conditioning the thoroughbreds in the contingent. Apprentice E. Young accepted his first mount of the 1942 Detroit meeting astride Mrs. W. R. Reids Baby Therese. Young is under contract to the Reid establishment, which is trained by Dave Hum. Matt Jordan, veteran turfman, who looks after John, W. Galbreaths Darby Dan Farm stable, also is conditioning I Lov Bridge and All Trumps, the property of H. R. Penny. J. Graham Brown, owner of the Brown Hotel Stable and Brown Hotel Farm, is expected at Detroit the latter part of the week. W. Graves Sparks is training 20 thoroughbreds here for Brown. C. J. Edwards registered 15 horses with racing secretary Charles F. Henry of the Fair Grounds. The entire stable is the property of C. A. ONeil, Jr. H. D. Walker, Logan, Ohio, turfman, registered Red Moss, Starwind and Algeomar with racing secretary Charles F. Henry. William Gillespie, business agent for the Jockeys Guild, is an arrival in the interests of his organization. , 1 Jockey George King, who led the riders here last year, accepted his first mount of the current meeting Monday astride J. C. Ellis Golden Appeal. Dr. E. E. Watson visited the Detroit Fair Grounds Sunday and treated several thoroughbreds now quartered at the local course. Ivan H. Parke1 has appointed Charles Robert Parke to assist him with the train-ing duties of his public stable. Charles Goddard, veteran clocker, is an arrival and joined the split second brigade. Jockey Joe Cavens came in from Chicago and immediately reported to trainer Joe Boller6, of the Lexbrook stable.
