Hoosier Hoosier and and Wiseasyou Wiseasyou in in Dead Dead Heat; Heat; Shut Shut Out Out and and Bath Bath Winners Winners at at Belmont Belmont SHUT OUT Both Are Eligible To Jolief Stakes Judges Deliberate Before Announcing Final Decision Litchfield Whips Vinum CRETE, 111,, May 26. John Marschs Hoosier; and J. D. Weils Wiseasyou, both, eligible for the Joliet Stakes, which will be staged here a week from Saturday, raced to a dead heat for top honors in the Stret-ford Stock Farm Purse, which served as one of the features of todays racing at Lincoln Fields. Before the result was made official, however, the stewards questioned the riders of the two juveniles and deliberated the possibility of a foul. The race was contested at five furlongs. Hoosier bore out on Wiseasyou in the last eighth mile, but the Lincoln Fields officials ruled the latter had not been interfered with and permitted the placings to stand. Hoosier was guided by Arthur Craig and Wiseasyou by Albert Bodiou. Co Hatter, in front of whom Hoosier passed as he bore out, was third, a length and a half off the leaders and a similar margin in advance of Rewarded. Hoosier, who was scoring his fourth victory of the year, followed in closest pursuit of Rewardeds pace to the home stretch and then wore her down. It was just after the Marsch gelding took command that he bore over and it was about this time that Wiseasyou, who had never been far away, began to loom as possible winner. As it was, the Weil filly got up in the last stride to earn a stand-off with Hoosier for the major share of the purse. . Co Hatter Finishes Third Co Hatter closed strongly to earn her share of the pruse, but she might have been intimidated when Hoosier crossed in front of her. With clear sailing, she might have been somewhat closer, if not actually the winner. Rewarded was showing the way over the early furlongs by as many as two lengths, but she weakened in the last three-sixteenths and just managed to save fourth money from Brown Mate. While the race was a thriller for the large crowd, there was little to it from a time standpoint, for Hoosier and Wiseasyou required l:0iy5 on a fast track to complete the distance. Running the fastest seven furlongs of the meeting, the Shady Brook Farms Litchfield scored a decisive victory in the Stevens Hotel Purse, in which four nominees for Saturdays Francis S. Peabody Memorial Handicap took part. Litchfield is not eligible for that stake, which may, or may not have been a stable oversight. The only other starter was Polymelior, who ran .third. Litchfield, guided by George Ryan and carrying the bulk of the publics support, closely followed Vinums pace to the home stretch and then, taking command, drew clear to score by three lengths.. Vinum saved the place by a half length. Litchfields time for the seven panels was 1:25 A Peabody Memorial nominee fared bet--ter in the Ocean Drive Purse, a six-furlong event staged as the sixth race. It went to Bulldinger to give the Marsch stable and jockey Craig a double. Bulldinger became the fourth favorite of the afternoon to reward the judgment of his backers.
