Yaeger Radio Crusade Triumphs CRETE, 111., May 28. That Aldridge was a sound investment for C. TJ. Yeager -of Denver, was shown when he won in Jiis first try under new colors at LincolnFields this afternoon. The. gelded son of Playtime and Another Day was claimed out of his last engagement for ,000 and th afternoon he moved lip a peg to capture the. six-furlong Steger Purse under the able handling of jockey Billy Pearson. Aldridge, who was an 18 to 1 choice with the large crowd, ran the six furlongs in 1:13 and that was good enough to land him home in front by almost . a length. Hy-Cop, the favorite,-had to.be content with the place, as another solidly-supported contestant, Annie Alone, was third. My Shadow beat the others in the field of nine. - " Aldridge was far back the first-half mile, in fact he was in front of only one horse but, after reaching the home" stretch, he rallied strongly and was up near the end for ,his surprise victory. But for racing wide much of the way he might even have won more convincingly. Ravonte Fails to Hold Lead Hy-Cop and Annie Alone indulged each other in a lively duel for pacemaking honors and, when the former pulled away from the mare in the last eighth, it appeared he might win. But Aldridge was closing powerfully on the extreme outside and the favorite did not have enough left to withstand his rush. Certainty was a sharp factor here to the last eighth, but then he had enough and-he was soundly beaten by the time he reached the wire. O Play, who had a number of admirers, was taken back at the start and, by the time she made her move, it was too late to be dangerous. To many it appeared she received a badly judged ride. Once more the attendance was up to expectations and the racing offered much to hold the interest of fans. The Rose of Tralee Purse, staged as the fifth race, saw the R. C. Stables Radio Crusade score a hard-earned victory and jockey Lester Balaski handle his second winner of the day. Bal-askis first victory came in the opening event, a dash of five furlongs for maiden two-year-olds, in which Mrs. E. E. Rob-bins Midall turned back 11 others. Mistress Step was second and Nanny next. Other earlier winners today were Mrs. Wm. Crumps Pajas, who accounted for the second race, and Mrs. G. Van Rees Commixion, who took the third. Each of these numbers was decided at seven furlongs. The chief supporting event was the sixth race, styled the Hammond Purse, and in it Lester Balaski rode his third winner of the day as he piloted Mrs. Monte Weils Art of War home in front of six other distance-running platers. It was trie "second win of the meeting for the Weil four-year-old and his seventh of the year. The, distance of the race was a mile and a furlong and Art of War reached the end of it a length and a half in front of the runner-up, Grand Central. Blue Cadet was third after having been placed in close quarters by the winner near the end.
