Polaris Annexes Detroit Opener by Three Lengths Prahs Chases Mrs. J. C. Sawyers Veteran, Son of Nassak to Wire DETROIT, Mich., May 28. The silks of Mrs. J. C. Sawyer were carried to their second success of the current Fair Grounds meeting today, when her Polaris scored an easy three lengths decision in the first race of six furlongs?-- Given a steady ride by Haskell Lasswell, Polaris came stoutly in the stretch and disposed of the leaders, winning with something left. Mrs. M. R. Graineys Prahs finished second, and he was a scant nose in advance of Gaffers and Sattlers leading Actor at the wire. The" favored Bold Turk did no better than 10th. Polaris stepped the distance over the fast track in 1:11, after which he rewarded his supporters with a 7.60 straight mutuel pay-off, he being overlooked somewhat in the wagering. Twelve started in the sprint and Prahs was the first to show in front after starter Bryan Steele effected a good start. Leading Actor, however, soon displaced Prahs and he held a half length lead over the latter passing the first quarter post, while Anahuac raced third, a short distance before the winner. Lasswell did not hurry Polaris and was content to keep his mount within striking distance of Leading Actor and Prahs until reaching the stretch. Leading Actor Continued on Page Thirty-Eight
