Wicks BiN Now Law ALBANY, N. Y., May 28. Governor Lehman has approved a bill designed to amend the pari-mutuel law in relation to the disposition of pari-mutuel pools, percentage payable to thestate as a tax. This legislation was introduced by Senator Arthur H. Wicks, of Kingston, chairman of the state finance committee. With his approval of this legislation the governor in a memorandum said: "This bill was enacted as a complimentary measure to the armory bill, in which the state takes over the cost of operating the armories throughout the state. It increases the states share of the pari-mutuel tax from five per cent to six per cent. It is expected to bring substantial additional revenue to the state. Only a relatively small part of the increased revenue, however, will be available to the state during the coming fiscal year since this bill goes into effect only on January 1, 1943."
