. u,,..... Brief Paragraphs From Racing Points Illinois LINCOLN FIELDS, Crete, 111., May 28. The veteran horseman, Joe Umensetter, Tuesday introduced a new rider to racing fans. He is Wm. Miller, 17-year-old Chicago boy, who has been galloping thoroughbreds for about a year and a half. Millers riding weight is 106 pounds. After a visit of several days, State Senator Simon E. Lantz is returning to his liome in Congervjlle, 111. An enthusiastic racing fan, Senator Lantz has sponsored much of the states legislation controlling the sport. E. A. Weidekamp, chief of pari-mutuel betting at Lincoln Fields, will have a full staff of sellers and cashiers working on Saturday when every ticket selling machine and paying window will be manned. I. C. Mishler came here from his home in Chattanooga and may spend much of his time at the Lincoln Fields meeting in Chicago. He has three horses here in charge of A. J. Plack. There will be no change in post time for the first race Saturday, Memorial Day, at Lincoln Fields. The holiday sport will start promptly at 2:15 oclock, with eight races on the program. C. V. Carr, part ownerof the Lookout Stock Farm stable, arrived from Jiis home in Covington, Ky., for a few days of racing. ; The Lookout horses are trained by G. E. Lewis. - Ownership of the two-year-olds Shifting Sand and Distant LightT has been trans-, f erred from J. J. Flanigan to his son, W. F. Flanigan. . , William Westerfield is taking Flighty Marie, Hi-Lutrecia, Tony W. and Busy to Thistle Down for Gus Simpne. They are leaving in a few days. R.. C. Groff s Forever Prince arrived here Wednesday from Columbus. He joined Miss Harriet, Skating Mad and King Bassel, who haVe been here for some time. The horses Servant Kan and Gene Kan, which D. D. Fuchs had under lease, have been returned to John D. Mikel. Fuchs had 1 the horses at Sportsmans Park. Dr. T. A. Donald of Lincoln, 111., has been appointed to represent the Illinois Racing "Board as veterinarian at Fairmount Park.-He is leaving Friday for Collinsville. Mayer, was highly pleased with1 the Withers performance of Kings Abbey and plans to start the English-bred, colt in the Belmont Stakes. A portion of one of the colts front shoes broke off during the race, but -fortunately did not injure the son of King Salmon. Just when it seemed that Wilbert Mul-holland would have little difficulty leading the trainers at the meeting, the George D. Wideher two-year-olds; almost without exception, developed bucked shins. Red -Sonnet.i apparently the leading juvenile so far, may be next seen under colors at Saratoga. Jockey George Woolf sustained a painful shoulder injury Saturday while astride the two-year-old Menex. The youngster reared while at the gate and pressed Woolfs shoulder against ah upright. The heavy safety pin that holds the shoulder number was pressed deep into the flesh. He reports his horses, including Kenneth K., are again rounding to form following an accident in which they were injured considerably jvhen the van turned over while en route liere from Kentucky. Pvt. Orville Shirkey,9. is reported missing in action on- Corregidor Island. Frank Shirkey, his father, track-foreman at Beu-lah Park, was so notified by the War Department. The boy was inducted into the service April 17, 1941. Forrest and Piatt dissolved their partnership Monday morning, Edward C. Piatt buying the horses Vindicare, Dinner Horn and Belle James. W. V. Reeves will continue to train them. B. H. "Brownie" Held is confined in White Cross Hospital, Columbus, following an operation last week. He will be an absentee from his-Beulah Park duties for the remainder of the meeting. PatpDonnell has replaced J. M. Booker as trainer of the S. Jones stable of four head, including Roaming Again, -a winner at this meeting. : C. N. Finchs Yar, Surgeon Dick and Henry Hatter arrived from Churchill Downs to join the rest of the stable at Beulah Park. C. M. Wilkinson of Detroit registered Morpan and San Ardo with the racing secretary Monday morning and turned them over to Paul Morris to train. ODonnell arrived with Gillespie and Muriel Lee, the property- of " H. Stokes. Starter Daley has only four horses on the schooling list Ashore, Flying Dawn, Ozzie and Zaph. Jockey J. Wray received word Saturday to report to his draft board at Kansas City, Mo. Trainer W. Russell has added Uncle Peter to his stable. The horse is owned by W. H. Weitz. J. Simpson has replaced F.
