Bal-askis first victory came in the opening event, a dash of five furlongs for maiden two-year-olds, in which Mrs. E. E. Rob-bins Midall turned back 11 others. Each of these numbers was decided at seven furlongs. The chief supporting event was the sixth race, styled the Hammond Purse, and in it Lester Balaskl rode his third winner of the day as he piloted Mrs. Monte Weils Art of War home in front of six other distance-running platers. It was the second win of the meeting for the Weil four-year-old and his seventh of the year. The distance of the race was a mile and a furlong and Art of War reached the end of it a length and a half in front of the runner-up, Grand Central. Blue Cadet was third after having been placed in close quarters by the winner near the end.
