New Boom Comes With Belated Speed In Stretch Run to Score at Suffolk Downs Catches Hill Sun Sixteenth From Finish and Draws Off In the North Square Purse SUFFOLK DOWNS, East Boston, Mass., June 24. Making his move in the final half mile and even losing ground when forced to go wide on the turn for home, E. B. Rollins New Boom came down the stretch like a wild horse to win the North Square Purse, sixth and feature race of todays program at Suffolk Downs. New Boom, a four-year-old chestnut gelding by Bien Fait out of Cabaletta had too much drive at the finish for I. A. Bal-lous Hill Sun, who had taken the lead at the furlong pole and had held it to the sixteenth pole. Third was B. A. Darios Slender Lady, and fourth was the choice of the majority of the 16,874 patrons, Gay Gino. The event, run at a mile and one sixteenth, was a scramble right from the start, with Gay Gino, Hill Sun and blender Lady taking their turns at making the pace and the lead kept shifting among this trio. In the meantime, jockey T. Guytoh steadied his mount well off the pace and then began to move overland after the field left the half-mile pole. As they hit the turn, he was well on the outside while Hill Sun, saving ground on the rail, was clear in front. New Boom moved ahead of Gay Gino and Slender Lady and set out ater Hill Sun, whom he caught at the sixteenth and after a few strides, drew clear for the win. The afternoon was a rough one for the favorites, since not one entered the winners circle in the first six races. The daily double paid of 60 for , as Mary Novick, at 6.50-1, and Sun Flame at 9-1 were the winners of the first and second races. The odds-on two-year-old Herbie G., ran out of speed and blew a five-length lead in the third race and Morris Wexlers Dog Day was run down in the stretch and finished second to Caroline F. in the fourth. The fifth race saw T. C. Melroses Mel Cavano also beaten in the stretch run while Gay Gino could do no better than fourth in the sixth.
