DESERT ISLE, eased back when caught in close quarters on the inside in the vicinity of the three and a half furlongs pole, then circled the leaders and prevailed under intermittent pressure. KNIGHTS HURRY raced with the pace throughout and held on gamely. ADESTE, unable to keep up early, raced wide while moving into contention and came willingly In the drive. PATUXENT BELLE weakened after racing forwardly placed early. SCHEME was hard ridden while setting the pace and faltered. SOLDIER SONG was steadied while pressing the early pace, assumed command when ready and held sway under intermittent pressure after jumping well throughout. AMERICAN WAY, not hurried early, was moving well when he made a bad landing at the thirteenth fence and recovered well to again challenge, but was not good enough. REFUGIO saved ground throughout, but was not good enough. ADAPTABLE was not a serious factor thereafter, but showed a fair race. KENNEBUNK was forwardly placed when he fell at the ninth Jump. BELLE COLE assumed command at once, turned back several challenges by ACKLEY and was drawing clear at the finish. ACKLEY raced nearest the pace throughout, showed a tendency to run out on the turn and weakened in the drive. SLIEVEMISH closed very little ground in the drive. BABY BILLY caught tired horses, but made up no ground. VOLTURNO showed a very dull race with no apparent excuse. VICAR JOHN dropped out of contention suddenly near the five and a half furlongs post and was never a factor. Jockey Arduini claimed a foul against the winner, but no action was taken. TENNESSEE MAID raced forwardly placed throughout, displaced the leader from the outside in the early stretch, but was unable to resist the winner. HYGROS GINGER held on well, but could make up no ground. RUN BUD RUN saved ground while setting the pace and quit badly FOREVERMINE quit badly after pressing the pace. BOY KNIGHT was rushed into contention after breaking tardily, was caught In close quarters on rail on the first turn, then showed an even race thereafter. LUCKY HIT faltered after being displaced.
