Elwood Pol Astride Winner In First Mount of Career DELAWARE PARK, Stanton, Del., June 24. When little Elwood "Woody" Polk won Saturdays final race on Rare Flares it was the first time he had ever ridden in a race. After achieving the feat of finding the finish line first he dismounted and his first question was: "Now, where do I go?" Polk is 17 years old and hails from Stras-burg, Georgia. His contract is owned by Otto C. Rasch who took him on about a year and a half ago on the recommendation of a truck driver who said he knew a youngster who was just crazy to ride horses. Polk weighs a bare 86 pounds. Waiting to ride his first mount was not the usual nervous trial for "Woody" despite the fact he had to sit in the jockey room for seven races. He napped, chatted and kidded with the other riders and didnt even say "this is it" and he reported to the paddock a.t the end of the afternoon. Immediately after the race "Woody" dashed in, took a shower, dressed and was back at the Rasch stable in time to cool out Rare Flares. He rides Wee Gray in the fourth race here today.
