Balqn, Argentine Star, Arrives at Belmont Park Hanger Importation May Be Ready For American Debut by Early Fall BELMONT PARK, Elmont, L. I., N. Y., May 17. — Trainer Charley Whittingham reported the arrival of the Argentine handicap star, Balan, at Belmont Park. The gray five-year-old by Badruddin-Heraclina shipped in fine condition and will race for Arnold Hanger. Whittingham said that he hopes to have him ready for early fall racing here. Balan raced with the best Argentine handicap horses last year, winning his last four starts in 1947 and winning stakes under high imposts during the past winter. Unlike many South American horses, he has excellent feet and gives the impression of being a quick, handy sort. Whittingham also reported that the three Argentine stars, Rico Monte, Talon and Endeavour JX whom Hcratio Luro, who now has the western division of the extensive stable at Santa Anita, trained for their brilliant North American campaigns, have all proved sure with their .mares this spring. Talon has served 27 mares at Jonabell Farm, near Lexington, Ky. Rico Monte, who is standing at Hal Price Headleys Beaumont Stud at Versailles, Ky., has been given some of the best mares on the farm. Endeavour TX, who created an excellent impression, though light campaigned here, is standing at Mrs. C. E. Persons Llangollen Farm in Virginia, ~and also has given all the preliminary indications that he will prove a successful stallion.
